On the reverse side of the noshi-shaped incense container is written "Seventy-five years old, by Jisei.
UONO Jisei 魚野自醒
He was born in Ishikawa Prefecture and studied under Yamamoto Rihei and Akatsuka Jitoku. He became a member of the Kyoto Lacquer Association, returning to Ishikawa during the Pacific War. He first exhibited at the national exhibitions with the 8th Teiten in 1927, thereafter returning to the 9th – 15th Teiten every year through 1934. He later participated in the Hoshukuten in 1940, the 4th and 5th Shin-Bunten in 1941 and 1942, and the Senji Tokubetsuten in 1944.
