Yoson Ikeda was born in Kurashiki, Okayama, and later studied painting at Takeuchi Seiho's painting school, Takezekai. Ikeda loved nature and travel throughout his life, and traveled all over Japan. He probably visited the Hozu River from Kameoka to Arashiyama and sketched the river. The Hozu River splashes wildly against the rocks. The Hozu River offers stunning views of rocks and beautiful mountains. In the past, the Hozu River transported lumber from Tamba to Kyoto and Osaka, as shown in this picture. The history of such water transportation dates back to 1,200 years ago, when lumber was floated on rafts when the capital was built in Nagaoka-kyo.
