Hanshichi IX, along with his predecessor Hanshichi VIII, had a close friendship with Teiichi Yuki of Kitcho, and is said to have made many of Kitcho's vessels. Hanshichi Shirai IX

After graduating from Kyoto University of Arts, Shirai Hanshichi specialized in Kensan copying, as did the 8th generation, and also produced tea ceramics in his own unique style. In 1980, he moved his kiln to Ohara, Sanda City, Hyogo Prefecture, and together with the 8th generation, he developed a close friendship with the ryotei restaurant Kitcho, where he often left tea ceremony utensils, kaiseki (banquet) tableware, and other works in the "Kitcho style".
