Kiyomizu Rokubei is a Kiyomizu ware potter of the mid-Edo period and beyond. Three colors graze, along with genkai, iron glaze, and kokkisai (rare glaze), are the representative decorative techniques of the sixth generation of Rokubei. The base is inscribed "Rokubei" and stamped "清". The sterling silver hiya is the work of Kyoto-based metal engraver Kato Sogen.
Rokubei Shimizu VI
1901-1980
The eldest son of Rokubei Shimizu V. He took over the family business of Kiyomizu ware in 1945. Awarded the Art Academy Prize in 1951 for his "Gengama Souzou Vase" and the Order of Cultural Merit in 1951. He is a member of the Art Academy.
