This flattened jar is decorated with Kawai Kanjiro's signature floral design in copper red glaze, gosu, and iron glaze. The copper red glaze is very beautiful against the white ground. The floral design is painted on both sides.
Koyama Fujio 小山冨士夫
1900 - 1975
He was a scholar of Japanese pottery and porcelain and Chinese ceramics. He was also a potter in his own right.In 1966, he built his kiln in Kamakura, restarted producing ceramics. In 1973, he moved to Toki, Gifu prefecture. Then he built ‘Hananoki Kiln’. He created a remarkable range of work using kilns in Kyoto, Shigaraki, Mino, Bizen, Hagi, Tobe, and Karatsu.
