This is a kudashi with an eye-catching twisted design in bright blue on a white background. The twisted patterns are painted on the inside and outside.

Kosai MIYAGAWA (Makuzu), a Kyoto pottery potter, opened a kiln in Higashiyama Makazugahara (now Maruyama Park), where the Makazu pottery tradition began.

1922 - 2016

Born in Tokyo. In 1946, he married the eldest daughter of the 4th generation and joined the Miyagawa family. In 1972, he succeeded to the name of the 5th generation Miyagawa Kosai. He received the mark of "Shinkazu" from Sokuchusai Sosa, the 13th generation of Omotesenke. In 2002, he passed the reigns of the family to his adopted son, Kazuo, and retired, taking the name "Jihei".
