This is a plaque with a part of the poem "Kaki no fu" written by Saneatsu Mushanokoji in praise of the poem.
I have never been struck by the rain of nectar
No root is rooted in a fountain of nectar
But I have taken the nectar from within
Everyone praises the sweetness of its fruit, but the persimmon tree has not been bathed in a rain of nectar and a fountain of dew. Like you, it was exposed to the wind and rain, and suffered from cold snow and frost, but in the environment it was given, it grew branches and roots, produced nectar from itself, and bore its own fruit to the delight of all. Like the persimmon, so it is.
Saneatsu Mushanokōji (武者小路 実篤)
1885 –1976
He was a Japanese novelist, playwright, poet, artist, and philosopher active during the late Taishō and Shōwa periods of Japan. Later on in life he requested that the pronunciation of his surname (as far as was concerned) be changed from the usual Mushanokōji, to Mushakōji, but without much success. He was nicknamed Musha and Futo-o by his colleagues.
