A sake cup by Osamu SUZUKI, one of the leading contemporary Mino artists and a living national treasure.

 

Osamu SUZUKI (1934 - )

Born in Toki City, Gifu Prefecture. This region is the home of Mino ware, and his father  was a glaze researcher. After learning about clay and glazes and acquiring basic knowledge, he studied under Toyozo Arakawa, Hajime Kato, and others. He studied Shino, a ceramic technique inherited from the Momoyama period.In 1994, he was certified as the holder of the Important Intangible Cultural Property “Shino” (Living National Treasure).
