This incense burner is decorated with a design of autumn flowers.
Rokubei KIYOMIZU VI, a Kiyomizu ware potter since the mid-Edo period, studied Japanese painting at the Kyoto Municipal College of Painting under Takeuchi Seiho and Yamamoto Shunkyo.
Sogen KATO, who created the hiya, was a goldsmith in Kyoto. He learned the technique of metal engraving from his father, Kashichi.
Rokubei KIYOMIZU VI
1901-1980
The eldest son of Rokubei Shimizu V. He took over the family business of Kiyomizu ware in 1945. Awarded the Art Academy Prize in 1951 for his "Gengama Souzou Vase" and the Order of Cultural Merit in 1951. He is a member of the Art Academy.
