This exquisite zogan (metal inlay) box was crafted by Tetsuzo Ueda, a renowned metal artist from Kyoto.
The exterior features finely inlaid motifs of bamboo and bush clover, demonstrating the elegance and precision of Japanese traditional metalwork. The surface is decorated with delicate textile-like texture (nunome-zogan), enhancing the refined beauty of the piece.
Golden stripes add rhythm and harmony to the design, creating a striking contrast with the dark base.
The interior is lined with patterned fabric in geometric motifs, providing a contemporary touch to this classic piece.
Tetsuzo Ueda (b. 1917) was the fourth-generation metal artisan in his family and was active in Kyoto.
He exhibited frequently and received numerous awards at prestigious exhibitions such as the Nitten (Japan Fine Arts Exhibition) and the Japan Traditional Art Crafts Exhibition. His work represents a harmonious blend of technique, tradition, and artistic sensibility.
