This scroll painting by Kenkichi Tomimoto, a Living National Treasure, depicts“The Winding Path,” an actual location in Ando Town, Nara Prefecture, where the artist was born.A small roadside shrine, a wheat field, and a pear tree are depicted in gold on a dark ground. The mountain in the background is said to be Tōnomine, home to Tanzan Shrine. Tomimoto often used this landscape in his designs for ceramic plates. The inscription on the box, written by Tomimoto himself, suggests that the owner brought the work to him for authentication or dedication.
