Frame: H 49 cm × W 64 cm

This is an original ink work by Shikō Munakata, a globally renowned woodblock print artist. The piece features the bold inscription “Shōji Hamada – Eye and Hand” in Munakata’s vigorous brushwork, along with depictions of a rounded jar and a square plate. His seal “棟” appears at the lower left. This work corresponds with the title of a catalog published for an exhibition on Shōji Hamada’s collected works and creations. Hamada, who was close to Munakata, was known not only for his pottery but also for his discerning eye in collecting utilitarian objects from around the world. This calligraphy pays tribute to the synergy of Hamada’s “eye” for selecting and “hand” for making, symbolizing their profound artistic connection.
