This is a Hakuji Men-tori vase crafted by Ueda Tsuneji (1913-2000), a ceramic artist who was active in the Showa periods.
With an impressive size of 14 cm in mouth diameter, 27 cm in body diameter, and 33.5 cm in height, the vase is characterized by its beautifully balanced form. The facets applied to the entire surface create delicate shadows on the smooth white porcelain, giving it a simple yet expressive presence. Its dignified appearance would beautifully complement any flowers or space.
Tsuneji Ueda specialized in creating white porcelain (hakuji) and nerikomi (marbled clay) ware, and he is highly regarded for his refined forms and the beauty of his glazes.

1914 – 1987
Tsuneji Ueda was born in Kyoto in 1914 as a second son of a draper.He read a book of Kenkichi Tomimoto and then he aimed to a potter.He opened the Kinosarayama kiln after he graduated a high school and leaned about architecture through sef-study.And then he studied under Kanjirou Kawai.In 1962, he held first personal exhibition in Nihonbashi Mitsukoshi Department Store, Tokyo.In 1974, he designed and supervised construction Kenkichi Tomimoto Memoriak Hall.In 1987, he passed away at 95.It is said that he communicated with Muneyoshi Yanagi, Shouji Hamada and Kenkichi Tomimoto.
