Taizo KURODA ”White Porcelain Bowl”

Original Box

D14cm H6.5cm

This white porcelain bowl was created by Taizo Kuroda, one of Japan’s most acclaimed contemporary ceramic artists.

With its pure, luminous white glaze and exquisitely refined form, the bowl embodies a sense of serene minimalism.

Devoid of decoration, it captivates solely through the harmony of form and surface — a testament to Kuroda’s uncompromising pursuit of essential beauty.

It serves as both a functional tea bowl and a sculptural art piece that brings quiet sophistication to any modern or traditional space.

Taizo KURODA

1946 – 2021

Born in Notogawa, Shiga Prefecture, Taizo Kuroda trained under Tatsuzō Shimaoka, a key figure in the Mingei (folk craft) movement.

His early career took root in Canada, where he worked and studied before returning to Japan in 1980. After establishing his studio in Itō, Shizuoka, he eventually dedicated himself exclusively to white porcelain.

From the 1990s onward, he became known for his thrown vessels and, later, for more abstract sculptural forms such as the Cylinder series.

His works are held in major international collections, including the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, and he is widely regarded as one of Japan’s leading figures in contemporary ceramic art.
