Gennai ware is a type of sancai (three-colored) pottery produced in Shido, Kagawa Prefecture (present-day Sanuki City), the birthplace of Hiraga Gennai, under his direction during the Edo period.

Gennai, a natural scientist and polymath, studied in Nagasaki, where he learned newly introduced glazing techniques brought from the Netherlands. Applying this knowledge, he sought to promote industry in his native Sanuki (Shido) and guided the production of a new type of soft-bodied, three-colored ceramic ware.

A similar example is illustrated in the exhibition catalogue Gennai-yaki: The Vision of Hiraga Gennai (2003).
