This exquisite incense burner is a masterpiece by Sueharu Fukami, one of Japan’s most internationally acclaimed contemporary ceramic artists.
The Form: Utilizing his signature high-pressure casting technique, Fukami achieves razor-sharp edges and aerodynamic curves that defy the traditional fragility of porcelain. The fin-like element on the lid evokes the imagery of a sail or a cresting wave, perfectly capturing the essence of a "Seascape."
The Glaze: The "Seihakuji" (pale blue celadon) glaze flows elegantly over the sharp contours, pooling in the recesses to create a stunning gradient of ethereal blues. This interplay of light and shadow gives the piece a sense of infinite depth.
Presence: While functional as an incense burner, this work transcends utility, standing as a sophisticated sculptural object that commands a serene presence in any interior space.
A sublime fusion of technical precision and poetic abstraction, representing the very best of contemporary Japanese craft.
