This exquisite white porcelain (Hakuji) incense burner is the work of Kusube Yaichi (1897–1984), a titan of modern Japanese ceramics and a recipient of the prestigious Order of Culture.

The piece showcases a pristine white surface, adorned with the subtle, undulating relief patterns that are a hallmark of Kusube’s sophisticated style. While the design appears minimalist at first glance, the soft, wavy textures catch the light to create a delicate play of shadows. From its perfectly balanced tripod base to the meticulously crafted knob on the lid, this incense burner transcends functional craft to become a work of pure art.

A minute black speck (a natural iron inclusion from the firing process) is present on the body. This is truly microscopic and does not detract from the pristine elegance or the artistic integrity of the piece; rather, it stands as a subtle testament to the authentic, handmade nature of the kiln-fired porcelain. It remains a distinguished masterpiece that brings serenity and timeless elegance to any space.
