This is a rare and exceptionally vibrant colored woodblock print (Banga) by the legendary master Shiko Munakata (1903–1975). Munakata was a revolutionary figure who achieved global renown, notably winning the International Grand Prix for Prints at the prestigious Venice Biennale.

The piece is titled "Tawara-Tsubohi no Saku" (The Fence of Empress Tawara Tsubo), featuring the voluptuous and mystical female figures (Nyonin) that remained Munakata's lifelong muse and passion.

The supple curves of the reclining figure, juxtaposed with the brilliant pops of red, blue, and yellow that overflow from the bold black ink outlines, evoke a profound sense of raw, earthy vitality.

The bottom left of the image bears the artist's dual signatures: "志功" (Shiko) and "Munakata." Importantly, this work features an official authentication label by Parier Munakata, the artist’s eldest son, providing impeccable provenance and giving discerning collectors complete peace of mind regarding its authenticity.
