This is a calligraphy hanging scroll titled "Kochu Nichigetsu Nagashi" by Osamu Suzuki (b. 1932), one of the leading masters in contemporary ceramics. Osamu Suzuki is widely recognized as a Living National Treasure (Holder of Important Intangible Cultural Property) for his remarkable revival of traditional Japanese ceramics such as Shino and Setoguro, and for establishing his unique aesthetic.

"Kochu Nichigetsu Nagashi" (literally, "In the Pot, Days and Months are Long") is a phrase that refers to a serene, otherworldly realm, like an immortal's paradise, where one can transcend the troubles of the mundane world and spend time in endless tranquility. In our busy modern age, this phrase prompts us to seek moments of quiet contemplation and inner peace. Suzuki Osamu's powerful yet profound brushwork brilliantly expresses this deep philosophical worldview, inviting the viewer into a calm and rich meditation.

This hanging scroll is a testament to how Suzuki Osamu's sensibility and spirituality, cultivated through his world of ceramics, are beautifully sublimated onto ink and paper. The strength found within stillness, and the inherent elegance that characterizes his ceramic works, can also be felt in this calligraphy. It will harmonize beautifully not only in traditional Japanese tokonoma but also in various contemporary spaces, bringing exceptional charm and a sense of calm to daily life.
