Seinyū RAKU (Kichizaemon RAKU, The 13th) / 楽 惺入(13代 樂 吉左衛門
1887 (Meiji 20) – 1944 (Shōwa 19)
The eldest son of the 12th-generation Kōnyū, he succeeded to the family headship in 1919 (Taishō 8) and assumed the name Kichizaemon.
He was known for his distinctive style, conducting his own research on minerals from various regions. His creative output extended beyond traditional Raku tea bowls to include a wide range of ceramics inspired by regional pottery traditions. He also pursued the creation of ornamental pieces with enthusiasm. His use of the spatula (hera) technique was particularly expressive, and his works overall are characterized by boldness and dynamic energy.
After his death, he was posthumously granted the name Seinyū by tea master Seisai Sōsa.
