"Large Plate with underglaze Blue and White"
China, Ming dynasty, 17th century
D. 42.5 cm H. 9.5 cm
This dish is called "Gosude," in Japan and was made at the Suzhou kiln in the southern part of Fujian Province in China. It was made at the end of the Ming dynasty, the same period as Kosometsuke. The blue color of the gosu is gentle. The front is decorated with birds, flowers, and grasses in unrestrained brushstrokes. It is a little thicker and has no insect bites, but there are some small chips on the rim. There are also some small scratches on the prospective piece.
