It has fine penetrations and is decorated with colorful autumn grasses. A mark is stamped on the side of the base and there are some kiln marks. After Rakuzan-yaki, a pottery produced in Matsue, Shimane Prefecture, fell into a slump and was temporarily suspended, Matsudaira Fumai, the lord of Matsue, selected Nagaoka Sumiemon, a potter from Nushina, to rebuild Rakuzan-yaki as the fifth generation. The pottery family has continued to produce pottery ever since. Among the successive generations, Kumi is highly praised as a master potter.

Kumi studied under Saka Koraizaemon IX, and was inspired by the masterpieces of tea ceremony utensils exhibited at the 100th anniversary of Fumai in 1917, which added to his taste for tea. His achievements in preserving Rakuzan ware for future generations are tremendous, and he is highly praised as a master craftsman.
