"Shonzui" generally refers to dyed porcelain fired in the private kilns of Jingdezhen, Jiangxi, to orders from Japan, mainly during the Chongtung period (1628-1644) at the end of the Ming dynasty in China. Compared to ko-sometsuke porcelain, this type uses a higher quality clay and pigments, and the patterns are carefully written on neat forms. One theory as to the origin of the name "Shozui" is that the inscription on some pieces reads "Wu Shozui Zou" (Wu Shozui made by Wu Liang Da Fu). It is said that this was made by "Shozui," the eldest son of the fifth son of the "Wu" family.

The prospect is decorated with a cherry blossom pattern, and a spiral pattern called a twisted pattern is painted from the prospect to the rim. Inside the base is a square inlaid with the character for "blessing".
