Shojo is a famous Noh play. The story is that the Shojo, a spirit animal said to live in the waters of the Yangtze River in Tang China, gives the filial son Gao Feng a jar of sake, which he can never get enough of.

In this work, too, the Shojo is holding a jar filled with alcohol. The lid is watermarked so that it can be removed. The back of the lid has burn marks. There is a small hole on the side of the head of the Shojo, which was made during the firing process.
