Living National Treasure
Frame:76.5cm× 57cm
The design depicts the Chinese character for “如” (Gotoshi). A character picture, also known as a character pattern, is a design in the form of a character pattern. Serizawa had a strong interest in the shape of characters, and produced many character works, large and small, from his early years to his later years. A similar piece is shown in Keisuke Serizawa Complete Works, Volume 21. Serizawa became a dyeing artist after encountering the Okinawan dyeing technique, Bingata. He created a new form of dyeing, in which a process that used to be carried out by the division of labor was now carried out by one person. His dyeing technique and the beauty of the dyed patterns were highly evaluated, and he was certified as a Living National Treasure for his stencil dyeing technique.
Keisuke SERIZAWA

His folk-art productions included kimono, paper prints, wall scrolls, folding screens, curtains, fans, and calendars.
