Sanda celadon began to be produced in Sanda City, Hyogo Prefecture in the late Edo period and continued to be produced until the early Showa period. Along with Chinese Longquan celadon and Korean Goryeo celadon, it was called one of the world's three major celadon wares.

 

This celadon lion-shaped incense burner is deep green in color.The mouth and one of the noses are watermarked.There are some kiln-scratches at both ends of the mouth, which were made during firing in the kiln. There are nicks under the nose and on the chin. There is also a cut at the base of the tail.
