Original Wooden Box
Showa period
Dimensions: Approx. Diameter 15–16 cm × Height 2 cm
This is a set of ten richly colored and playfully designed meimeizara (individual small plates), crafted by the renowned Shirai Hanshichi IX (1928–1987).
Each plate features a unique hand-painted scene, capturing the beauty of seasonal flora and traditional landscapes. The collection includes elegant motifs such as plum blossoms, bamboo, autumn grasses, and flowing water, all exquisitely rendered with brilliant gold accents.
The vibrant pigments stand out beautifully against the slightly rustic and warm texture of the ceramic body, adding a layer of sophistication to any dining setting. Whether used as serving plates for guests or as confectionery plates for a tea ceremony, these masterpieces are designed to create a truly special and memorable atmosphere.
Hanshichi SHIRAI, the 9th
1928 - 1987
After graduating from Kyoto University of Arts, Shirai Hanshichi specialized in the same style as the 8th generation, the Kenzan copy, and also produced tea ceramics in his own unique style. In 1980, he moved his kiln to Ohara, Sanda City, Hyogo Prefecture, and together with the 8th generation, he developed a close friendship with the ryotei restaurant Kitcho, where he often left works of "Kitcho's favor" such as tea ceremony utensils and kaiseki (banquet) tableware.
