Munemaro ISHIGURO(石黒 宗麿)
1893 (Meiji 26) – 1968 (Showa 43)
Born in Toyama Prefecture. He continued creating pottery while moving between Tokyo, Saitama, and Kanazawa, eventually settling in Higashiyama Ward, Kyoto City, in 1927 (Showa 2). Without studying under a specific master, he dedicated himself to ceramic research using ancient pottery as his guide. Later, he began producing works at "Yase Togama," a kiln and residence he built in Yase, Kyoto. In 1955 (Showa 30), he was designated a Living National Treasure for his mastery of iron-glazed ceramics.
