Hozen EIRAKU (Zengoro EIRAKU the 11th) / 永楽 保全(11代永楽 善五郎)
1795 (Kansei 7) - 1854 (Ansei 1)
A potter of the late Edo period. Adopted by the 10th generation Nishimura Zengoro (Ryozen), an earthenware potter, and succeeded to the 11th generation.
He was invited by Tokugawa Harutomi, the feudal lord of Kii Wakayama, to start Kairakuen Pottery and was given the two characters of "Eiraku".
With a pottery technique that freely imitated not only Japanese pottery but also Korean, Chinese, and Koji pottery, he produced everything from tea sets and decorative objects to daily necessities.
