Tsutsugaki (Slip-Trailing Decoration) / 筒描

A decorative technique in which a thick slip, such as white clay in a mud-like consistency, is placed into a container—typically a bamboo tube fitted with a spout or a paper cone coated with persimmon tannin (kakishibu)—and applied to the surface of a ceramic vessel in raised lines to create patterns or designs. This method is commonly referred to as icchin-mori or icchin-gake in Japanese.
