He was a scholar of Japanese pottery and porcelain and Chinese ceramics. He was also a potter in his own right.In 1966, he built his kiln in Kamakura, restarted producing ceramics. In 1973, he moved to Toki, Gifu prefecture. Then he built ‘Hananoki Kiln’. He created a remarkable range of work using kilns in Kyoto, Shigaraki, Mino, Bizen, Hagi, Tobe, and Karatsu.
